A Great Project for Summer Houses and Cabins

Whether you have a cabin in the woods or landscaped grounds, leafcutter bees are perfect for boosting the pollination and growth of your summer property.

Leafcutter bees are only active during the warmest months of the year, so if you are away until early autumn, you will see your bees’ full 60-day lifecycle!

Plant a garden and work alongside the bees. You can enjoy watching them work around your property, fly to and from plants, pollinate, and prepare nests for next summer!

If your summer home is located in a woodland area, these super pollinators can also contribute to the health of your local forest. With their 1:20 pollinating ratio compared to honey bees, leaf cutters can give your surrounding environment and wildlife a good boost!

The Perfect Addition to Kids’ Summer Camps and Programs

Are you running a kids’ scout camp this summer? Adding leafcutter bees to the property is an excellent way to combine fun and education in your camp activities. Leafcutters rarely sting, making them the perfect outdoor companions for your junior campers!

You can get the kids to grow their own plants (see this Instagram post for some of our leafcutter-friendly suggestions) and have them observe the bees as they cut leaves and pollinate.

Between days spent canoeing and going on nature walks, your campers can enjoy learning about gardening, the bee lifecycle, and the exciting process of pollination!

How to Add Leafcutter Bees to Your Summer Property

Our team at Kind Bee Farms is excited to bring our hardworking bees to your front door! Place an order once your area has reached a consistent temperature of 20°C (or 75°F) and before the growth season ends. Leaf cutter bees are their happiest at the height of summer!

Here’s a simple guide for ordering our kind bees to your summer retreat:

Ordering to your home/ main location: It can be hard to get packages sent to out-of-the-way properties like cabins. If you are retreating to the woods for the summer, you may need to order your bees to your main home or property.

You will receive your bees when they are almost fully hatched. They will happily live in their box for a few days in a cool, temperature-controlled environment.

Make sure your vehicle can maintain a consistent, cool temperature for the duration of your drive; otherwise, your bees may not survive the trip.

Ordering to your summer property: If you decide to order your bees directly to your summer property, make sure you arrive before their estimated delivery date. You do not want them left on the front step, at the mercy of the elements!

At the end of the summer, pack up your bee house and cocoons in a secure, cool, and dry area of your property. A shed or garage usually does the trick!

To prevent damage, keep the Bee House away from any water sources or outdoor spaces. If stored carefully, your cocoons will be ready and waiting to hatch when you return next year.

Remember: If it’s too late to order bees for your growth season, you can tack this onto your plans for next summer.
