At Kind Bee Farms, we have pollinator bees for sale that are perfect for growing your gardens and crops! Our Bee Starter Kit includes a box of bees, bee tubes, and a wooden bee house, which you can install in your garden to give the bees easy access to your plants.
If you plan to order leafcutter bees for your property, you may wonder: “How many bee houses do I need?” Before placing your order, here is a guide to help you decide how many leafcutter bees you need to buy!
How Many Bees is Too Many?
Some nature lovers might think, “The more bees, the better!” However, if you bring too many leafcutter bees to your garden, there will not be enough plants and flowers for everyone, which will cause the bees to fight for space and eventually leave. Instead, you want to introduce just enough bees to ensure an even distribution of pollination.
Our bee kits come with a box containing 25-30g of bees, which equals about 200 bees per box. Use the following guide when selecting the right number of bees for your property:
- 1 Kind Bee Kit (200+ bees): Small apartment patio/balcony to standard urban yard.
- 2 Kind Bee Kits (400+ bees): Large suburban front/backyards.
- 3 Kind Bee Kits (600+ bees): Yards or properties over 1 acre. If you are unsure whether your property covers 1 acre, measure its square footage and divide that number by 43,560.

Where Should I Place the Bee Houses?
Once you order the appropriate number of bee houses for your garden, mount them within 300 ft of your plants. You want your bee house(s) close enough to your garden that the bees don’t need to fly too far to find plants and flowers. If possible, install the house(s) where your garden gets the most morning sun, as this will keep your bees flying longer throughout the day!
Keep your bee houses far enough off the ground to ensure mice, ants, and other critters stay away from your leafcutters! We recommend installing the house about 4 feet off the ground for enhanced protection.
To prevent the bee cocoons from getting drenched, mount the bee house away from water sources like hoses and sprinklers. Our bee houses are made from sturdy acacia wood that can handle light summer rain on the exterior. Still, it is best to place the house where it can gain some protection from the elements.
